Happy Labor Day, loves! Fall is in the air, and this is the best time to enjoy al fresco dining in DC – such as on this gorgeous patio of Lupo Verde. You may have seen me in plenty of modern, edgy looks here on the blog, but there’s a side of me that loves unique vintage finds. DC is a fantastic city for vintage treasures, and in this post I’m showing a mini dress/tunic from the 60’s that works great as a transitional piece, but would also carry well into fall with some boots or wide leg jeans.
Many vintage stores in DC I’ve shopped at have since shuttered, but there are still some amazing collections from style mavens such as Tara Papanicolas. I have had some luck with vintage treasure-hunting online at Etsy, but be aware of sizing and material. Always pay special attention at product measurements to ensure fit! People were much skinnier back in those days :). For fabric, expect most vintage textiles to be an uncomfortable polyester unless otherwise noted. I was lucky that this tunic here is of a soft cotton, .
I took some inspiration from Gucci’s runway and added a scarf tie with an alpaca flower brooch from Peruvian Connection. If you can’t tell already, I am completely obsessed with everything from Alessandro Michele!
Now about this fabulous setting – Lupo Verde (translation – “green wolf”) serves authentic & delicious Italian fare in the bustling 14th Street neighborhood. Partner and general manager Antonio Matarazzo (above right) is a native of Avellino, Italy, and studied at the University of Perugia, so you know their food is legit ;). Besides the innovative cocktails, house-made charcuteries, huge selection of cheeses, a beautiful patio, house-made pastas and (THANK YOU 🙂 gluten free options, what I love even more is the ability to take just about anything to go – including dry or fresh pastas and house-made sauces. For those with toddlers like us where eating at restaurants is a luxury, dinner at home just got fancier!
Lupo Verde will be opening their second locations in the Palasades this fall, with a retail shop on the first floor with house-made items and fine imported Italian olive oil, along with many more products sourced during Antonio’s summer travels to Italy. I’ll be sure to capture photos and Snapchats of the new location when it opens, so follow along on social @anchyi for more!
