Hello, everyone! It’s been a busy fall season so far, which is sure to escalate as we approach the holidays. Also escalating? The biker shorts trend.
Ever since the 80’s and 90’s came back recently, the fashion community has awaited their arrival. After overcoming my initial dislikes (who remembers Princess Di’s casual looks, or those 80’s workout tapes?), I’ve come around and love this latest throwback addition.
Last September, biker shorts made a minor statement for brands like Saint Laurent and Nina Ricci. This grew to more international brands this Fashion Month; Laquan Smith, Roberto Cavalli, Prada, and MSGM all highlighted biker shorts in their spring 2019 collections. It also caught notice from Karl Lagerfeld, who showed them at Chanel and Fendi. In six months, once more mid-and low-priced options are made, these shorts will be everywhere. Since the industry has obviously taken note, it’s official: bike shorts will be one of the biggest spring trends.
Thanks to celebs like the Hadids, Kardashians, and models like Emily Ratajkowski and Kaia Gerber, there’s no lack of styling ideas for bike shorts. The most popular have been pairing the shorts with oversized sweaters or coordinating blazers-some influencers have even worn them under a matching skirt for more 90’s-nostalgic “skort” looks. However, I chose to make mine more travel-friendly (though the shorts themselves are super comfy already).
These dark teal bike shorts are from COS, who’s known for minimal yet functional designs, with styles that can appeal to many different aesthetics. Their bike shorts add a pop of toned color to the rest of this outfit’s all-white pieces, and are really comfortable! I’ll be styling them in more ways this season, so stay tuned.
This COS jacket’s asymmetrical pocket is perfect for holding essentials, and add futuristic details to the side buttons and large sleeves. I can easily throw it over outfits for a simple fall layer when going to appointments, shopping, or picking my son up from school! I originally wore this when the weather was warmer, so the bottom layer is a simple bralette-definitely not what I’d wear for the current temperatures! Right now, I’d likely pair this with a turtleneck sweater.
For more futuristic embellishments, I chose accessories that were relatively simple. I paired two of my favorites-this Shrimps bag and Simone Rocha sneakers-so the shorts would add a color highlight to lots of neutral details. The pearls added a common texture thread to top off the look.
Also just got an incredible set of lashes from DC Lash Bar – it’s safe to say that I’m addicted!
Stay warm, and have a great weekend!
