Ever since our little one came into life, I’ve been making an effort to minimize toxins and eat clean. The difference I feel now compared to a year ago is drastic, and I’m healthier, happier, more fit, and less sick than ever. My goal is not try to convince you to change your lifestyle – everyone makes their own choice for their own reasons. However I do want to raise awareness by sharing what has worked for me. Perhaps I will dive in deeper later into those experiences, but for now just know that everyone is an individual, and blanket statements from doctors or media do not apply to everyone. Do your research and do what works for you! Knowledge.Is.Power. Question everything. Be the biggest skeptic about what is offered to you as “solutions”, your body (and family!) will thank you for it.
From personal experience, eating clean and eliminating inflammatories has done wonders so much more so than my previous days of indulging in gluttonous, conventional, Standard American Diet way. I now do my absolute best effort to eliminate gluten, dairy, vegetable oils, artificial and highly processed foods. Being a food adventurer, this definitely makes things challenging especially when eating out or attending events, but I’m delighted to discover more and more businesses catered to the healthy-eating lifestyle around the city.
Whenever I’m out with little guy during meal time, I always look for places with a similar mentality as our healthy living style – understanding food sensitivities and using fresh, preferably organic and grass fed, ingredients. Yes, this pretty much eliminate about 80% of restaurants out there. But when you feel amazing… it’s hard to want to go back to lower state just for a mouthful of what is perceived to be “delicious” but wreak havoc on your body. This is why I was ecstatic to find Postmodern Foods while attending an event one night in Georgetown.
Postmodern Foods is an organic, vegan, gluten-free, and raw juicery that serves ready-made foods. It’s perfect for healthy lunch options on the go, and they even deliver within the beltway! As a busy mama, I love the convenience of this while still providing my family the best ingredients. This onion bread sandwich with chili lime mayo (pictured above), and pad thai with almond sauce are my go-to’s.
The Georgetown location has a well-lit sitting room which is perfect for your teleworking days. And that’s not it – the set of French doors in the back opens to a gorgeous, sunny garden. I feel detoxed already just stepping into this place!
About the outfit – This is not not a new ensemble, and this incredible full maxi skirt from Chicwish continues to be one of my favorites. The price is low and impact is high, and I don’t worry about getting it dirty! I’ve worn this trekking throughout the city with sneakers, and even to the playground (with some questionable looks from other Capitol Hill parents :P). And it’s even 15% off right now!
Cheers to a healthy, productive week!
