This year’s street style has made me reconsider layering. Fashion Month galleries have shown fashionistas utilizing eclectic looks with pieces both fun (like this Tibi fringe skirt) and practical (my oversized sweater). This “thrown-together” look highlights new trends while making use of pieces that can be fun and practical-and make for a killer outfit, even if it appears less curated.
I used this concept as inspiration for this look. To brave those chilly spring temperatures, I layered a chunky sweater with this Tibi skirt – which has such fun streamer-like accents! I was also inspired by runways like Alessandro Trinchone and Sally LaPointe to break out pastels, now that they’re appropriate year-round.
It’s assumed that new seasonal wardrobes will begin making the rounds, but spring’s now chillier than winter. To that end, I paired these fun Vetements graphic socks with my favorite pair of Tibi boots. The gray Western shapes add whimsy to their chunky heels and pointed toes. White textiles make a great backdrop for details like these and help them pop more when paired together.
This Paco Rabanne bucket bag was one of my favorite purchases last year, and I’m so happy to have found a great look to go with it. The bag insert is a playful take on the utilitarian, packaging twists brands like Balenciaga, Christian Louboutin and Off-White have been using recently. I can also never resist a good metallic accessory- they’re essentials at this point!
I used vintage hair clips to tie the look together. I’ve worn barrettes more often since last fall, and am so excited they’re the top spring beauty trend. Barrettes, pins and clips have been on runways worldwide (Alexander Wang and Chanel, which I never dreamed of overlapping, have both shown them), and they’re about to come in full bloom. They’ve always added a fun, girly twist to ensembles (I particularly love my Zara ones), so it will be exciting to see how they’re worn in 2019! Layering is great for test-driving new trends like this one, and I can’t wait to use it again for more looks this spring.
Happy almost spring!
