Hello, everyone! It’s been a busy month, but we’re back and ready for the new season. I had the immense pleasure to attend New York Fashion Week yet again this fall-there were so many great designers (and such fun street style-which I think is getting even bolder than previous seasons)! Here’s my recap from day one.
I started the Week off with Noon by Noor at the infamous Spring Studios. I loved all of the beach-ready pieces-they were a breath of fresh air for the chilly months ahead. Noon by Noor is based in Bahrain, and the brand’s designers Shaikha Noor Al Khalifa and Shaikha Haya Al Khalifa have been friends since childhood-which is so sweet!
I decided to start the week off with a bang-specifically, in a houndstooth-print Off-White dress. I wanted to keep things simple and clean in this look, so I opted for my “Sculpture” bag from the brand and minimal sunnies. However, there had to be another statement somewhere-so I chose to wear my Sies Marjan ankle boots. The candy-like pink pops against the neutrals in this look, and the iridescent effect perfectly complements the curved heels (and it stood out enough to make Harper’s Bazaar Hong Kong’s street style list!).
Many of the pieces I saw at Noon by Noor (luckily enough, from the front row!) were continuing their modern aesthetic, with minimal embellishments and tonal hues. Many of you might be surprised I loved it so much-after all, my tastes are pretty maximalist-but I appreciate diversity in fashion, which also translates to the garments (as well as Noon by Noor’s model lineup, which showed models with many skin tones and was very forward). It’s remained fairly popular while being under-the-radar so far, but Blake Lively and Solange Knowles have worn their pieces lately-so it’s only a matter of time before the brand expands even further!
Post-show, I changed my outfit to something more casual (a long dress is only so wearable in verifiable summer weather). I chose to wear this fun, funky Natasha Zinko top-and since it’s strapless, I wore it over a vintage tee (the “New York” graphic seemed appropriate, no?). Natasha’s career has spanned from law to design-her clothing used to be side projects for her jewelry design clients post-lawyer training, and now she’s built her fashion label as a highlight of London’s style scene. I love embracing female designers, especially those with such varied backgrounds, so as a designer Natasha’s pieces spoke to me-and, loving maximalist works as I do, this top did too! The mixed prints might be intimidating to some-multiple florals and plaids aren’t for everyone-but paired with a clean basic like this T-shirt, it makes for a well-established focal point and brings the outfit together. I paired this with my favorite Bouguessa silver trousers, and my new Alexandre Birman heels for an extra plaid pairing (isn’t the bow detail adorable?). For an added punch of texture, I accessorized with my beloved pearl Shrimps bag and floral Mindy Lam earrings from our upcoming collaboration-which you’ll see more of this season!
The next show was Pamella Rolland, another brand I’ve admired for awhile. Pamella’s designs are a little more specific-she makes eveningwear-and this collection kept her architectural signatures with exotic inspirations from Bali. The color palette for this collection was mainly greens and yellows, which are perfect for spring-but offset with blush pinks, magenta, and black for a lovely color palette. This show had so many standouts-I loved everything. The opening piece-a green feather mini-dress-immediately drew my eye, and others, like the sequined silver suit and a black and white dress with 3D floral detailing, took my breath away-I’d wear them in a heartbeat! This collection was simply stunning, and combined with feather, fringe, beaded and sequined detailing, there are many pieces that cater to different tastes but make for a well-rounded line.
In-between shows, I changed my outfit to a rock-star-worthy look; gold glitter suit, with my favorite Attico mules and a Gucci fanny pack and logo tee to dress it down. However, it was missing a key piece-accessories-so I stopped by Flont Club to pick out some pieces on loan. Flont is a try-and-buy business for fine jewelry, which expanded from e-commerce to include a chic headquarters in New York City. Jewelry’s typically a greater investment than clothes, so being able to rent high-quality pieces makes it more accessible and approachable for everybody. Flont’s business includes memberships to rent jewelry from established and emerging brands, as well as buy pieces if you can’t go without them! Mimi So, herself an established American jewelry designer (she’s even mingled with Alessandro Michele and Carolina Herrera!) helped me pick out some fantastic statement pieces to wear for my Fashion Week adventures. For the show after my appointment, I donned a pair of “Aquila” earrings by Colette, and a Deborah Pagani ring. The ring was black gold with a super-fun diamond wave detail, and the earrings were composed of gray pearls with starbursts in the back. These gave the outfit unique finishing touches while still adding some much-needed, drool-worthy sparkle.
After a minor trial to find transportation in the ensuing rain (it only took me, my assistant and our two videographers to flag down one cab!) I ended day 1 at Dur Doux. I love supporting local designers and brands, not to mention this presentation was held at one of my favorite emerging designer boutiques in NYC – Dreams on Air. There were tiger and leopard prints (another major fall trend!), marigold hues, and lovely tropic-toned dresses. They even sourced local talent; all of the show’s models were native to the DMV area!
What a day it’s been! I said goodnight to the city and headed home to the James Hotel in this casual leopard look with & Other Stories top and pants,
