I’ve unexpectedly fallen in love with the suiting trend this year! I’ve worn this trend as a set and “pantsless” with denim shorts, but wanted to elevate my suiting repertoire with my favorite color – an all white set! Suiting has overtaken 2018 and is anticipated to be popular this fall, too. The white suit is the perfect way to embrace this trend for the warmer spring and summer weather we’re experiencing in D.C., and can be worn with nearly any bag, shoe, or other accessory. In this post I’m wearing the suit 3 ways – With a belt bag, Dressed down with a bold top and sneakers, and “Topless” with a bralette.
First up – the Belt Bag, Fanny Pack, Bum Bag, whatever you want to call it. This is another unexpected “practical” trend that’s overtaken all price points of the fashion industry. Supreme has been producing a variety of products – they’ve even made sleeping bags and collaborated with Louis Vuitton – in addition to their popular apparel since 1994, when the brand opened in a Lower Manhattan skate shop. All of their products, especially ones with the brand’s simple, instantly recognizable red-and-white box logo, have become so popular that they’re only produced in limited stocks and sell out instantly the day they’re released (the brand only has ten stores in the world)! They’re definitely high-quality, as far as streetwear goes, and have grown in popularity from being worn by celebrities and hip-hop stars. Their low stock productions account for increased demand, and their long-running consistent image and numerous artistic collaborations have made Supreme a verifiable fashion house. It’s drawing of a large consumer tribe has formed a nearly cult-like following, but no other streetwear brand has had their same impact. It’s authentic roots in New York skate culture, combined with hype and the original consumers’ desire to wear it as skating clothes, rather than trendy fashion, has made it one of the most exclusive and appealing streetwear brands worldwide. This brand’s downtown authenticity – and a necessary dose of urban street-cool to this outfit – is why I chose this bag; it adds that element of instant brand identity, while conveniently fitting into the current belt bag trend and making my ensemble that much more unique.
For the second look, I made the white suit casual with a red Calvin Klein 205W39NYC turtleneck. I’ve worn this top with a gray checked blazer previously on the blog, and it added a fun element of color to the ensemble without overtaking the whole outfit. I wanted to avoid the extreme businesswoman look, however, so I added these Off-White sneakers for some edgy, streetwear flair. I’m really loving the casualness of sneakers with a suit, you?
Meeting at Blue Bottle Coffee with my intern Aaron Royce, who has helped so much with writing this post!
As another variation, I wore this suite with a bralette for a look with arguable appropriateness for my age 😀 but great way to show off those abs you’ve been working so hard on! This is also a great opportunity to show off my Mindy Lam ear cuff (all hand-made and one-of-a-kind) and vintage Chanel bag from LePrix. Both companies are run by incredible #girlbosses whom I’ve had the pleasure of getting to know. Head over to my Instagram for more upcoming info on both!
As you can see, the possibilities of wearing suiting pieces are endless! Whether it’s for a meeting or a simple coffee break, this look is perfect for a variety of occasions with it’s laid-back take on business casual – and it’s styling is definitely something I’ll be returning to.
Thanks for stopping by!
