Ever since Alessandro Michele took reins at Gucci, he has swooned the fashion crowed and completely dosed me with head-to-toe obsession on EVERY.thing in his collections.  While I don’t have the means to drop thousands of dollars on a piece (ok maybe just a splurge on some shoes… *guilt*), this ensemble – inspired by his incredible geek chic Spring 2016 collection – is put together with some old & new pieces, with a very special accessory borrowed from my late dad, Lawrence Chin-i Wei.

The standout piece in this ensemble is the vintage tie.  My dad had quite an interesting tie collection, some of which I’ve made into my styling.  For me, wearing items from his closet is our special moment together, and a great way to remember him by.  I wish he was here today to see these looks – though he may raise an eyebrow at my aesthetics!

This outfit embraces so many of the elements I love about fashion – the texture of the metallic lace jacket, the mixing of patterns with striped shirt and tie, a white collar, a fun color combo, and luxury accessories.   The best part of styling is piecing together a look using unexpected combinations – the final result is work of art that communicates your individuality.

These Gucci crossover slides from the Cruise 2016 collection practically defined the shoe trend of the season.  The gold version is a favorite, but I settled for these more practical nudes.  When I first saw these all over Fashion Week street style, I was taken with the blocked-heel, chubby design as refreshing aesthetic to the more common lady-like looks.  If you are looking for one new summer shoe trend to add to your closet, definitely try some slide mules!
