National Museum of Women in the Arts (NMWA) in Washington, D.C. is the only major museum in the world solely dedicated to championing women through the arts. Why is this important? Because while 51% of visual artists today are women, gender disparity in the arts still holds true. Did you know:
- Work by women artists makes up only 3–5% of major permanent collections in the U.S. and Europe
- Only 30% of artists represented by commercial galleries are women
- Women working across arts professions make almost $20,000 less per year than men.
- The top three museums in the world, the British Museum (est. 1753), the Louvre (est. 1793), and The Metropolitan Museum of Art (est. 1870) have never had female directors.
To support the museum’s initiative, a few weeks ago I had the pleasure of attending NMWA’s Spring Gala honoring Annie Lieibovitz. It was such an enchanted evening – I hope you got a glimpse on IG Stories (if not, check back for future events)! The evening started out with getting glammed up by Joan at Own Your Wonder, Georgetown’s new make-up bar. She did such an amazing job that I immediately purchased a 3-session package afterwards!
Putting on my new Paula Mendoza earrings from Nova Bossa
For the event I wore a white dress by Pia Gladys Perey, known to have dressed Hollywood stars such as Angelina Jolie (her stylist buys PGP dresses by the multiples!). These dresses are super comfortable to wear, and at reasonable price points. They are also customizable in a variety of colors and lenghts, the one I’m wearing here is the Pfieffer (Also loving the Nancy). Who doesn’t love elegant looks without breaking the bank? Have a fabulous weekend!
