The return of the 80’s look is bigger than ever! As one of the must-have looks of summer 2017, this one is easy to pull off without spending hundreds of dollars on something that is familiar to (some of 😉 us. Big, exaggerated shoulders have been seen down the SS2017 runway. Since most trends are inspired by ideas of the past, a more creative and affordable way to wear these looks is to go for the original source. No doubt some vintage stores would have inventory of 80’s flocks – think big shoulder pads, colorful sequins and polka dots!
Which brings me to the story of this lace and velvet puff-shoulder jacket. Not only is this “almost vintage”, it was taken from the closet of the house I grew up in! Yup, this was part of a dress I wore to my very first high school homecoming. Oh, the memories! I had a huge fight with my mom because she wouldn’t let me go (date with a boy?! Blasphemy). Being such a rebellious daughter (as if) I went anyway. Decades later, I can’t believe this thing still sitting in my parents house. It makes a great outfit now though, no?
Have a great weekend!
