Good morning, stylish friends! The off shoulder top is THE fashion uniform this summer, how have you been enjoying it? It became so popular that it may now be deemed as “played out” by the fashion crowd – however my thoughts are with this article I came across on Stylecaster – “In Defense of Off-the-Shoulder Tops“. Like the author states, I believe if you like a certain look, wear it proudly! Who cares what anyone else says? In this specific case of off-the-shoulder cut, I have loved this look since way before, during, and after it became “trendy”. Now that it’s became so common, I’m styling it more creatively in order to turn up the fun factor. And that involves layering.
In this look I layered an old dress over Michelly Mo’s off-the-shoulder top from Sashion, an online boutique whose merchandise I have made many, many uses out of (more posts to follow on this). This is a great way to spice up a dress you’re “over”, or create a look that’s totally unique and unexpected. I just love the puff sleeves on this top – it compliments so well with the dress!
Australian designer Karla Spetic is responsible this whimsical dress. Upon discovering this label a few years ago, I’ve been enjoying the mix use of textures, patterns and unexpected silhouettes of select seasons of her designs. I have a weakness for sheer fabrics, and clever use of it in this design gives just the right amount of “peek” without giving away too much.
I’ll conclude this post with a reminder to #followyourheart. As stated on my Instagram, it seems as if I’ve been living for other people most of my life – parents, culture, society’s expectations, etc. But it’s never too late to unapologetically be yourself (with awareness)! It feels great to do what your heart desires, without caring what others think. This mural, with a few others, can been seen outside Union Market (apparently my second home).
See you back soon! 😡
