Hello everyone. It’s a gloomy day in DC, and I write to you today with a heavy heart, as we are still trying to get over what has happened last night with the election. But, alas, let’s put the energy of our sorrows towards something more productive, more meaningful, and gather our efforts together towards change and improvements. The glimmer of hope we do have (and desperately need to hang on to), is that contrary to the current administration, where the right does everything possible to sabotage what Obama does and makes every effort to ensure his failure – we now will use the force of unity and work together to ensure the success of POTUS elect, and to make this country a better place. Because we are bigger people and understand what matters – if we can all let go of our selfish needs and feelings, and work towards the bigger picture.

The city was a ghost town today, as we mourn over the decision America has made. Nevertheless, I still wanted to share this photo set taken at one of the city’s hidden gem’s – Radiator at Kimpton’s Mason and Rook Hotel. Formerly the Helix, this hotel located just off the bustling 14th Street Corridor was just renovated earlier this year to give its ultra cool, sexy vibe with its decor focusing on rich woods and clean, deep hues. I was first stunned by the dark exteriors one day as I drove by the place, and the designer in me was very impressed with its choice of typography, color scheme and wood accents. It was trendy without trying too hard, sleek without being pretentious. It was warm and inviting, and I couldn’t wait to find out more.
Hubby and I have double Leo birthdays a week apart, so for our birthday weekend we decided to experience Mason and Rook and it’s restaurant, Radiator. The restaurant has a deep, sexy vibe that matches the hotel, but also with lounge seating with plenty of natural light, and a spacious outdoor area. A long communal table in a private corner is perfect for group gatherings. The restaurant has an excellent list of craft cocktails, and the food menu did not disappoint. Some amenities to note – as a hotel guest, you get to choose from a selection of Shinola watches to wear throughout your stay! There’s also a super cool bike available to hotel guests to trek the city in style.
About the Outfit
I’ve been obsessed with the work of Melbourne-based designer Toni Maticevski. His unique use of fabric shape and draping produces jaw-dropping gowns that’s elegant yet modern at the same time. As his designs reject the norm, it’s all the more reasons for me to love them :). It’s the perfect balance of art and fashion. I balanced the asymmetrical hem with one of my favorite shirts that can be worn in numerous ways – in this case the one-shoulder. For cooler fall temperatures, I’d pair some white booties with this (THE boots to get this season!). A minimalist, bold choker completes the look.
Thanks for reading – Stay tuned for another blog post on Mason & Rook!
